Specialist in Double Coat Dog Grooming

Grooming for Double Coated Dogs.
Deshedding a double-coated dog before winter sounds counterintuitive (“don’t they need that coat?”), but done properly, it actually helps their coat work the way it’s supposed to.
We’re not taking the coat away—we’re removing what shouldn’t be there so the coat can actually keep your dog warmer this winter.
Right now, before winter hits, we remove the dead, compacted undercoat that causes:
-
Constant hair all over your house
-
That “dog smell” that won’t go away
-
They stay damp and cold under a packed coat.
-
A proper deshed removes loose, dead hair so the coat can regulate temperature efficiently—keeping your dog warm and dry.
-
Prevents matting (which reduces warmth).
-
Helps the skin stay healthy through winter.

Our 5 Step System for Double Coated Dogs
As a Double Coat specialist, we use a 5-step process that removes 80 to 90% of the dead coat while resetting the coat to function as it was designed.
Just brushing your dog's dry coat is an inefficient way to remove dead coat. If you are using certain deshedding tools, as many people do, you may be doing more harm than good. These tools may damage the coat and hair follicles, forcing the coat into recovery mode. You may see an initial reduction in shedding, but your dog starts producing more coat and increases shedding.
What is the 5 Step Process?
1. Pre-blow out with the high velocity dryer and brush over to remove loose coat and any matting.
2. The Bathing process - 3 Parts
Shampoo with a deep cleansing odor-neutralizing product to remove dirt, dander, and dead skin cells.
A 2nd shampoo with a gentle moisturizing shampoo to help with skin and coat health, and give your dog a pleasant smell.
Apply a Creme conditioner to nourish the coat and add slip to enable the dead coat to slide out. We then brush and comb your dog with the conditioner still in for 10 minutes or more. This helps remove as much of the unwanted coat as possible. This is where the magic happens.
3. Drying. After the bath, we remove the excess water from the coat with a towel dry. Then they are fully dried with the high velocity dryer, which blows out even more unwanted coat.
4. Final brush and comb out. This involves line brushing the entire dog with a slicker brush and a fine-tooth steel comb from head to tail.
5. The finishing touches. This includes nail clipping and ear cleaning, underpaws clipped, sanitary clip and scissor tidy the feet and feathering.
It is not possible to stop shedding completely. However, this process removes 80 to 90% and significantly reduces shedding for longer and resets the coat to function better.
⏳ Why You Need To Act Now
-
Pre-winter is the worst time for coat compaction
-
Waiting = thicker undercoat = more hair, more cost later
-
We only take a limited number of deshed clients per week..
